Summer 2011 Lupus Now Preview

The news about the Food and Drug Administration’s approval of Benlysta® (belimumab) to treat lupus is the cover story in this issue. Although Benlysta will not right for everybody, it represents a new era of hope for millions of people worldwide. Find out what this breakthrough means to long-time members of the lupus community in “Path to Progress.”

We may not know why certain environmental factors trigger lupus onset and disease flares, but it sure helps to know what they are. Our second feature, The Lupus Environment,” takes a look at how lupus is related to and affected by the natural world around us—and for some people, even by what they eat and drink.

One of the most potent lupus triggers is ultraviolet radiation. In “Sun Rules,” you’ll learn about sunblock labeling, the truth about tanning, how fluorescent lights can cause harm, and much more.

Lupus can also have a huge impact on the health of your mouth, teeth and gums. “Mouth Maintenance” offers advice on prevention and upkeep of one of your teeth and gums, as well as information on Sjogren’s syndrome, a condition that often occurs with lupus.

All this and much, much more will be coming to you in the mail soon, in the Summer issue of Lupus Now. Not a subscriber? Join a local LFA chapter, or subscribe online, at The Lupus Shop.

I am very happy to read more about the 'healthy-living-cure' for lupus survivors...we need to advocate this more and more...this is certainly what keeps my lupus flares in a coma...it actually has kept me off of the meds, too :)
