Hello all!! Lupus Walks and any other awareness & fundraisers are awesome!!!!!!! I am so exited to see so much going on!!
I have but one question/comment. That is, what time of day will these walks be held? I am a fellow lupus sufferer and was outside in the very cloudy weather last week and the next morning had a hellacious malar rash, face swollen, red, burning, and so painful that my entire head also hurt. This also put me into a terrible flare that I am still dealing with and it has been horrid, very sick and pain off the scale!
So, I am wondering if it would serve not only Lupus sufferers, but also the public to have these walks begin at dusk in a controlled environment (away from potential traffic) and have lupus flashlights as one of the novelties to buy!!? It would not only allow those of us affected who are able to do the walk to do it safely, but it would promote further AWARENESS and education to the public at large that lupus sufferers cannot be exposed to the sun and why. (As opposed to the stereotype that we are angry, lazy, couch potatos who never want to come outside and enjoy the day with everyone else--and people DO think that about us--I have overheard it! :()
This is my idea to help our cause and awareness of how much lupus steals from our bodies and our lives...the more educated the public is about what a struggle everyday is the more they will want to support and help to find treatments and a cure!! Hugs to all!!
Hi Anon: walks are held at different times of the day, depending on the event. However, organizers are very good about providing people with supplies they may need such as free sunscreen and water. Please contact your local walk and they will be able to help you out.
How about a walk in wisconsin? Illinois is just to far from where I live.
How can I start a walk for lupus program in my local area?
I am wondering why there is not a walk in Minneapolis again this year? Was it not very successful? Granted it was only the second year. I was very much looking forward to this again this year!
I would love to see these types of awareness activities taking place in my area..Is it possible? I live in West Virginia and I know that awareness certainly needs to be raised!
I would like to be more involved in spreading awareness and raising funds in partnership with my local chapter but I am having little luck getting someone to respond to my emails. I am debating organizing my own event and then donating the funds raised to the LFA on my own. Is that allowed? And can I use the logo? Are there resources I can get from somewhere other than my local chapter to have available?
Hi all, If there is no Walk near you, you can still help out the LFA by setting up your own fundraising page at www.lupus.org/pagesofhope and participating in your own walk or organizing your own event.
I did the walk this past weekend for the first time and I just want to say how much I enjoyed it. I can't wait until next year!
